Typical duties
- SMAW, GMAW/MIG, GTAW/TIG and FCAW welding to the employer’s procedure
- Structural steel fabrication — beams, columns, plates and gratings
- Pipe welding in 1G to 6G positions, including root, hot pass, fill and cap
- Reading fabrication drawings, WPS documents and weld symbols
- Grinding, gouging, gas cutting and joint preparation
- Working to visual, dye-penetrant and radiographic inspection standards
The trade test
A live coupon test in the position the employer needs, often followed by radiographic or bend testing. Bring your own gloves and helmet if you have them; the coupon, machine and consumables are provided at the test centre.

- ITI in welder trade where you have it — many employers waive it for a clean 6G test
- Welder qualification certificates (ASME IX, AWS or client-approved) if you hold any

Yes, frequently. For welders the coupon test is what decides — employers routinely select experienced welders without an ITI if the weld passes inspection. Certificates matter more for pressure-vessel and oil-and-gas clients whose end customer audits qualifications.
What is a 6G welder and why is the demand so high?
6G is a pipe weld made at a fixed 45-degree angle, so the welder has to work overhead, vertical and flat in one joint. It is the hardest common position, which is why 6G-qualified welders are recruited fastest and graded highest.
Do European employers hire Indian welders?
Yes. Polish fabrication shops and Russian manufacturers both recruit welders from India on work-permit routes. Expect a stricter documentation file and a longer timeline than a Gulf placement.
How do I apply for a welder job abroad?

What should my CV show for a welder vacancy?
Your trade stated plainly, the years of experience, the specific equipment or systems you worked on, and the names of the employers with dates. Attach your experience certificates and any trade certificate. Vague CVs get skipped — employers shortlist on specifics.
