- Assisting masons, carpenters, steel fixers, fitters and electricians on site
- Material shifting, loading, unloading and housekeeping of the work area
- Mixing, carrying and placing materials as directed
- Tool and equipment handling and basic site cleaning
- Following the supervisor’s instructions and site safety rules
The trade test
An interview and a fitness and attitude assessment rather than a trade test. Employers look for people who will hold a two-year contract, so a steady work history counts.

A licensed Recruiting Agent may charge a service fee of up to forty-five days’ wages, and must issue a receipt for it. Nobody may charge you for the visa itself when the employer has paid for it. If someone asks for a large cash sum with no receipt, walk away and report it.
Do I need experience for a helper job?
Usually not. Fitness, a valid passport and willingness to complete the contract are what employers ask for. Experience helps you move to a trade grade later.
Is a helper job worth taking?
It is honest work with a proper contract, and many of the tradesmen we place today started as helpers. What matters is that the contract, wage and hours are in writing before you travel — which is exactly what emigration clearance is designed to check.
How do I apply for a general helper job abroad?
