The job

What a chef or cook does on an overseas contract.

Written from the demand letters our clients actually send us — not a generic description.

Typical duties

  • Preparing food to the establishment’s standard recipes and portion sizes
  • Indian, continental, Arabic or bakery specialisation depending on the vacancy
  • Mise en place, stock rotation and storage discipline
  • Kitchen hygiene, HACCP practice and temperature records
  • Working a section under a head chef, or running a camp kitchen line
  • Equipment handling — ranges, ovens, tandoor, fryers and mixers

The trade test

A live cooking test of two or three dishes in your claimed specialisation, judged on taste, consistency, speed and cleanliness. Bakers are tested on dough handling and proving.

Documents that help you

  • Catering or hotel-management certificates where you hold them
  • Experience certificates naming the cuisine and the establishment type
  • Food-safety or HACCP training certificates

All questions

What is camp catering?

Cooking for a workforce living on a project or industrial camp — high volume, fixed menus, and a stable roster. It is the largest single source of catering vacancies in the Gulf and suits cooks who want steady hours.

Do I need a hotel-management degree?

No. Grade is decided by the cooking test and your experience. A qualification helps for hotel and restaurant chains that grade by qualification, and for supervisory roles.

How do I apply for a chef or cook job abroad?

Upload your CV on this website — it is free and takes a few minutes. Our team screens it against the demand letters we are working on, and calls you when there is a match. You then attend the interview or trade test, complete the medical, and we file the visa and, for ECR passports going to Gulf countries, the emigration clearance.

What should my CV show for a chef or cook vacancy?

Your trade stated plainly, the years of experience, the specific equipment or systems you worked on, and the names of the employers with dates. Attach your experience certificates and any trade certificate. Vague CVs get skipped — employers shortlist on specifics.

Do you charge candidates a fee?

Registration and CV upload are free. As a licensed Recruiting Agent we may charge a service fee of up to forty-five days’ wages once you are selected, against a receipt. Nobody at Galaxy Enterprises will ask you for cash without a receipt — if that happens, report it to us directly.

Are you a chef or cook?

Upload your CV once, free. When an employer opens a demand for your trade we call you for the interview or trade test — and we tell you the country, the contract and the wage before you commit to anything.
